About the North East Zone
Representing the diverse linguistic landscape of the region, the Northeast Zone includes eight states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura where the initiative focuses on documenting and safeguarding 30 identified indigenous languages.
Northeast is a land where a rich and a diverse linguistic nature, varied cultures and an exotic flora and fauna exist. In India, languages of the Tibeto-Burman family are densely concentrated in this region.
Documenting the North East Linguistic Diversity
The North East Zone encompasses states with highly diverse and critical ethnolinguistic communities. Our dedicated research teams work closely with native speakers to document, archive, and revitalize languages that form an essential part of the region's cultural heritage.
